Corporate Environmentalism Knowledge Center

Our Initiative is only one element in a greater global movement. Here are a few programs and resources we have come across while developing our own environmental management strategy.

Manage Your Output

An excellent UK site focusing on managing waste. In particular, take a look here for in depth information and suggestions on managing waste production and reduction in an office setting: http://www.wasteonline.org.uk/resources/InformationSheets/WasteAtWork.htm

Measure Your Progress

http://www.globalreporting.org/

Any size company interested in corporate environmentalism should benchmark their success using smart and effective measurement. This organization provides useful guidelines for measuring environmental performance.

Recycle Light Bulbs

http://www.epa.gov/bulbrecycling/

Using high efficiency lighting is a great way to save energy; but be sure to properly dispose of them as they do contain mercury which can easily be recycled instead of released into the environment. The EPA can guide you to the appropriate recycling programs.

Plant A Tree

http://www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign/index.asp

To make up for the net loss of forest over the last decade, we would need to plant approximately 14 billion trees every year for the next decade. That is equivalent to every person on earth planting and caring for 2 seedlings every year. The United Nations is running a campaign to account for some of this reforestation, where you can pledge to plant your contribution.

Print Smarter

http://www.printgreener.com/index.html

Chances are that you will still print even in an eco-friendly office. If doing so, a product such as this can minimize your printing by implementing compact and readable fonts, providing smart options such as printing text only, remove unwanted pages from web printing, and tracking your printing habits.
