Instant Service Records for the Massachusetts National Guard

Sudbury, MA, 17 May 2007 - The Massachusetts National Guard engaged with ScerIS, Inc. to ensure veterans have access to vital records and service documents. One such document, the DD-214, was recently discussed in the article “Instant Service Records,” which appeared in the Spring 2007 issue of Massachusetts Minutemen Magazine. The Department of Defense Form 214 is used by active duty and discharged personnel to prove military service.

Every record from the Spanish-American War to present day conflicts was filed in hard copy with the National Guard. This system, at optimal conditions, took about a week to respond to individual requests.

With ScerIS’s business process optimization solutions, every record was digitized and indexed within a new system. The time spent locating records was reduced to seconds, effectively ending the backlog in the office and making response time more instantaneous.

The initial project scope was to scan the war documents, but over the five year time span the solution evolved to include all National Guard documents including active duty service records.

This system promotes accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency aiding veterans who need their records immediately.
