ScerIS Launches Program For Corporate Environmentalism

Sudbury, MA, 15 October 2007 – Today, ScerIS announces the ScerIS Environmental Initiative. This initiative targets enough reduction in paper consumption in business processes to:

  • save 1 million trees from being harvested,
  • prevent CO2 created in the manufacture of paper by over 100 thousand tons, and
  • reduce over 790 million gallons of waste water produced in the manufacturing process.

To accomplish this, ScerIS will waive the licensing fees on a paper-saving application and sacrifice software license revenues. The application is ScerIS’s Enterprise Report Management (ERM) system and it is used to replace printed reports with an online report management system that makes printing an option instead of a requirement.

“Upon reviewing the successes of customers using our ERM application over the last 12 years we recognized the significance of the role we can play in the green community,” says Jim Walckner, ScerIS President and CEO. “We are fortunate to be in a position where we have multiple business process optimization solutions and don’t only rely on revenues from our ERM application. We are hoping that, by surrendering our potential revenues for a good cause, we can encourage a green office evolution among organizations that might not have considered this technology due to licensing costs.”

Due to limitations of paper recycling programs and the resources consumed to produce, print upon, store and transport paper, reducing paper consumption is the best way for an organization to achieve its environmental and economic goals. One client of ScerIS reduced its use of paper by approximately 200,000 pages per day (over 10 million pages per year). Since the installation of this application, it alone has accounted for the reduction of approximately 48,000 trees taken, 5,600 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and 54,000,000 gallons of waste water that would have been used in paper production.

The Enterprise Report Management application is a full featured core application from the suite of applications developed by ScerIS. Aside from report storage and retrieval, it provides security and audit trail capabilities that help organizations meet demands from Sarbanes Oxley, SEC, HIPAA, and IRS regulations. The application can be used as a basis for developing other capabilities such as E-Invoicing, customer portals, vendor portals, and more. This application has grown through 12 years of development and will continue to be enhanced and expanded as new opportunities are discovered.
