Laboratory
Like many healthcare organizations, laboratories today are caught in the financial squeeze to provide better, broader, faster service while reducing cost. Considerable investments have been made in state of the art testing and analysis equipment and yet, in conjunction with upgrades to the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) it has still not been enough. Even with the upgraded LIS, much of the administrative work has remained, eating away at valuable employee resources.
With laboratories expanding their roles, both into and beyond their immediate communities, it is increasingly difficult to manage the laboratory’s administrative processes. Pressure is also increasing to report accurate and precise information at an accelerated rate.
With ScerIS, you can easily manage all types of documents including lab requisitions, ABNs and instrument calibration reports. The ScerIS application can use barcode, mark sense, hand and machine print recognition modules to read data from scanned laboratory requisitions for repurposing as indexes in ScerIS. As a result, the requisition is automatically indexed and stored for fast access. Document requests are easily satisfied and users can access documents directly from anywhere on the network.
Examples of Common Opportunities:
Requisition Scanning and Indexing
With ScerIS, laboratories are able to scan in thousands of requisitions daily. These scanned documents are indexed automatically using barcodes with checksum algorithms (if available) to provide one hundred percent accuracy for the captured data. Using the barcoded accession/order number, ScerIS cross-references new information with information from your existing LIS to backfill indexes such as Patient Name, Ordering Physician and Order Date. The indexes are configurable during the implementation phase, ensuring integration with your existing applications and retrieval methodologies.
Electronic Report Management (ERM)
ScerIS ERM acts as a centralized collection point to manage and save all of your critical laboratory information. Using ScerIS ERM improves access by providing a single online interface for all documents, and therefore increases security with complete control over your organization’s data. Additionally, electronic data archives are stored in an unchangeable format, which serves as backup to your critical information and ensures business continuity.
ScerIS ERM works by acquiring reports from host applications within your organization. This might mean incoming and outgoing EDI files, reports from your line of business applications or transactional documents such as invoices or statements. The ScerIS ERM automatically identifies captured data and formats it according to predetermined rules. Page breaks are identified or added, sections of reports can be split into separate documents, information is captured for indexing and security can be applied down to the user level. Once archived, the information is secure and permanent, making it a legal repository for your most critical information.
Secure web access allows the flexibility for your stored data to be accessed remotely by authorized users. This and customizable security features might allow you to leverage your ERM system into a vendor or customer portal; allowing authorized information consumers outside of your internal network to answer their own questions, instantly and without tying up your personnel.
The centralization of all documents points the business user to the information they are seeking in a matter of seconds. Combined with savings in paper, printing, storage and distribution, this increase in productivity creates a fast return on investment.
Ancillary Document Archives
The ScerIS application is modular and upgradeable. The ScerIS Document Image Repository Module manages all types of paper documents. Beyond lab requisitions, it can archive ABNs and instrument calibration reports, as well testing documents in support of your LIS upgrades.
