Why Is ScerIS Doing This?
Paper consumption is expected to double by 2050. Organizations aware of the growing concerns for sustainability of the environment and the economy must evaluate their paper use and their participation in this trend. ScerIS has chosen to try to change this trend.
Each industry uses paper in its own way, and we have alternatives that are better choices than continuing business as usual on paper. Our products have a direct impact on paper consumption and we intend to increase that impact by presenting organizations with a simplified decision of whether or not to go “paperless.” When evaluating how and where to eliminate paper from your work environment, the cost must be weighed against the potential benefit and return. What we have done, is remove most of the cost, allowing you to focus on the benefit and return.
The benefits directly to your organization will be varied depending on your circumstances, but the benefit to the environment is significant. Today, the United States alone consumes about 8 million tons of copy paper per year. This represents the harvesting of at least 192 million trees for copy paper production to feed the information economy of the United States.
This production process not only creates carbon dioxide, but it also removes one of the most significant carbon sinks in the world. An average tree in one year will absorb 26 pounds of CO2, and from that produce enough oxygen for a family of four. It is estimated that the world’s forests store 283 gigatons of carbon right now.
Technology has advanced to where we can replace office paper with systems that are more effective, efficient, resilient, and secure than paper systems have ever been. With our help, the office environment can do its part to become climate neutral in regards to paper consumption.
