IT Delivery Can Be Like Buying a Car

“Have you ever gone to an auto dealership to buy a new car and been quoted some crazy low number, only to have that number be “incomplete” because it doesn’t include the fees for destination, documentation, title, registration, preparation, advertising, etc.? And how about the extra fees for undercoating, wheel protection, VIN etching, credit insurance and extended warranties? It’s enough to make you crazy and walk out the door.

That same concept applies to some IT managed services providers and software companies. MSP’s say they support “that thing” but only to a limit of “X” or during a certain timeframe. Software companies employ named user licensing models that distinguish between “platinum, gold, silver, tin and paper” and the functionality those users can access and when they can access them. It’s enough to make you want to go buy a car…”
